Thanks to a redesign, the new 2023 Honda Accord now exhibits sleek lines, broad shoulders and elongated taillights. The rejuvenated passenger compartment is likewise a success, providing comfort befitting this renowned sedan. Honda has also improved the fuel economy of its powertrains.
As for the Nissan Maxima, 2023 is the last year that it will be in production. Although it isn’t as popular as it once was, it still offers a lot of standard equipment, a powerful engine and respectable levels of luxury and comfort. However, its resale value has gone down significantly, as its direct competitors, including the Accord, have gradually eclipsed it. Furthermore, in the process of going green, Nissan excluded this model, thereby sealing its fate.
Hybridization helps the 2023 Accord beat the Maxima
Less expensive in its base version (EX) than the entry-level Maxima, the 2023 Honda Accord aims to be a midsize car that’s comfortable and pleasant to drive. Under the hood, there’s a 1.5 L inline-four turbo engine, combined with a dynamic continuously variable transmission (CVT). At 7.3 liters per 100 kilometers, average fuel consumption is excellent for a midsize car. The Sport and Touring versions include a hybrid system (a 2.0 L engine and two electric motors) producing more than 210 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque, subject to some anticipated adjustments. Combined fuel consumption hovers around 5 liters per 100 kilometers.
By comparison, the 2023 Nissan Maxima has a 3.5 L V6 that can generate 300 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque. Like the Accord, it comes with front-wheel drive and a continuously variable transmission. Combined fuel consumption is approximately 10 liters per 100 kilometers. Equipped with a drive mode selector, the Maxima offers an exhilarating driving experience in Sport mode, adjusting the throttle valve, turning radius, transmission, suspension and other parameters accordingly.
Luxury plus onboard technology
For 2023, both the Maxima and the Accord are modern vehicles equipped with a multitude of driver assist features and systems. Their “safety shields” are even more comprehensive on the higher trim levels. You’ll find such systems as smart brake support with pedestrian detection, automatic rear braking, cross traffic alert, lane keeping assist, blind spot warning, an around view monitor, traffic sign recognition and more.
