The 2023 Honda Odyssey vs the 2023 Toyota Sienna
July 31 2023, Lallier Honda Pointe-aux-Trembles
For Honda’s minivan, the automaker has opted for continuity. The 2023 Odyssey will still come with a single powertrain, front-wheel drive, excellent sound absorption capabilities and enough room to comfortably seat eight. It’s fitting to point out that, to date, this model, which is more than 5.2 meters in length and weighs more than 2,000 kilograms, has been dependable, safe, practical and efficient. What’s more, it offers a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.
For Toyota’s part, the 2023 Sienna minivan continues to benefit from the changes made two years ago. The automaker had improved the design and prioritized a hybrid powertrain, so much so, in fact, that this minivan has become the leader in its class. Nevertheless, even when equipped with the available all-wheel drive system, the Sienna has the same tow rating as the Odyssey. At roughly the same length and weight, the Sienna is relatively fuel efficient, but when it comes to power, it’s fairly middling. The 189 horsepower produced by the base hybrid powertrain with front-wheel drive doesn’t allow for good accelerations or clean takeoffs, especially with seven passengers aboard.
A more spirited Odyssey and a less spacious Sienna for 2023
By comparison, the 2023 Honda Odyssey can always count on its solid, agile 3.5 L V6 engine. With 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, it makes for an exhilarating driving experience even at high rpm, while the suspension system does a great job of absorbing any imperfections in the road surface. The Sienna fails to offer this level of driving pleasure. However, it has everything you need for a long trip: plenty of storage spaces, seven USB ports, four-zone climate control and no fewer than 16 cup-holders.
Honda hasn’t sacrificed practicality for comfort. By folding down both rows of rear seats in the Odyssey, you’ll have access to 3,984 liters of cargo volume (it can fit a 4-by-8-foot sheet of plywood lying flat). As for the 2023 Toyota Sienna, its maximum cargo volume surprisingly tops out at 2,860 liters.
No complex with regard to the “leader”
In the EX-L version, the 2023 Honda Odyssey offers all the requisite luxury and convenience. Meanwhile, the new Black Edition comes with black 19-inch rims, black accents and distinctive leather upholstery. This competes well with the 25th Anniversary Edition of the Sienna, which features exclusive workmanship. In the end, the Odyssey earns better scores in overall ergonomics, as the Sienna is somewhat lacking when it comes to the center front armrest, the touchscreen and the multimedia system.
